The Barnard’s Barnyard is located on the outskirts of Cape Town near the small town of Malmesbury, this charming family getaway not only offers a tranquil environment coupled with breathtaking views but also the opportunity to explore all that nature has to offer.
The outdoors on our farm offers all our guests a personalised experience through the freedom of creating your very own adventures. The Barnyard is known for the peace and tranquility it offers, from being greeted by a wide range of early morning birds or the calming stillness that the night brings, inevitably sparks a disconnect from the busyness of life.
Our true outdoor experience is enriched by the farm animals, surrounding and natural vegetation.

House Rules
The basics are as follows, please read our detailed policy from below and download a copy of our indemnity form for your stay with us:
- Checkins: 14h00 and Checkout 10h00

Cancellation Policy
- No show or cancellation within 14 days of stay – No refund due.
- Between 15 and 30 days before stay – 25% of the deposit will be refunded.
- Between 60 and 30 days before stay – 50% of the deposit will be refunded
- More than 60 days before stay – full refund.
House policy
- Acknowledge and accept the risks, hazards and dangers that may inherently exist on the farm, including the risks relating to animals, reptiles, birds and insects and the possibility of suffering bodily harm, injury, death, and loss of property which may arise as a result of the activities and or the presence of animals, reptiles or insects while on the property known as The Barnard’s’ Barnyard and that, as the representative / group leader / parent / spouse / partner, I accept, on behalf of the occupants, full responsibility and unabridged liability.
- Release the owners, managers, servants, agents and representatives of the Barnard’s Barnyard of any duty or care towards me and from any liability from all or any claims that could accrue to me or the occupants arising out of our presence on the farm irrespective of whether such claim or claims arose through negligence of any person or from the risks, dangers or hazards inherent on a working farm, or of any loss of or damage to any property from any cause whatsoever and Ii further indemnify and hold harmless associated persons against any claims howsoever the same may arise.
- Indemnify and hold harmless the owners, managers, servants, agents and representatives of the Barnard’s’ Barnyard of any claim or claims which may be made by my dependants or any of the occupants against the owners, managers, servants, agents and representatives for any damage or loss that I and the occupants may suffer through any act or omission of the owners, managers, servants, agents and representatives howsoever caused.
- Renounces for myself and the occupants and dependants all claims against the owners for compensation for injury, damage or loss, caused directly to myself or the occupants belongings members of his group and his/her dependants or to persons who, except for these conditions, may have been entitled to make a claim howsoever arising and whether caused or occasioned by any negligent act or omission or default of the owners, managers, servants, agents and representatives of the Bernard’s’ Barnyard.
- Accept that I and the occupants partake in all or any of the activities including walking, swimming, hiking, animal petting and pony rides at our own risk.
- Acknowledge that the premises contain an unsupervised, open dam which may be used at our own risk.
- Accept that children must be under adult supervision at all times.
- Guests are responsible for all breakages, please let us know of any breakages when checkin out.
- Acknowledge that I have informed the occupants of the contents of this indemnity form.”
PLEASE NOTE:
- This is a high risk fire area. Fires may only be made in the hearths, fire pits or braai areas provided.
- Fire wood can be purchased from the wood shed. Please do not collect or burn tree branches, wood, plant material or natural vegetation.
- Please drive only to and from your cottage or camp site and remain on the existing roads or tracks. Farm tracks other than the tracks or road to the cottages are out of bounds for private vehicles.
- Bins are provided for litter. Please use them.
- Since our guests come to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the farm, we have a ‘no audible music’ policy.
- Potable (drinking) water is a scarce commodity in the Swartland area. Please use the water sparingly.
- For the sake of those using the farm dam and to avoid nasty cuts, please do not bring glasses, bottles or anything that may break or shatter near the dam.
- Hunting or the discharging of firearms is strictly prohibited on the farm.
- Please close all gates after passing through as animals may exit if left open.
- Due to the inherent risk of injury, drowning or snake bites, including the risks and hazards mentioned on this page, children must remain under adult supervision at all times.
- The right of admission to this private property is reserved. We thus reserve the right to refuse entry to, decline accommodation to and to expel any persons for misconduct or any reason we, in our sole view, deem reasonable.
- Management will not assume responsibility for any occurrences beyond their control. This includes inclement weather, electricity grid failures, load shedding or noise from adjacent farms.
- Refunds for late cancellations will not be paid. Every effort will be made by management to provide the best service at all time to our patrons but no refunding will be negotiated for any services deemed or considered inadequate or not provided for.
- Cottages should be ready for occupation from 14h00 on the day of your arrival. Please vacate the cottage by 10h00 on the day of your departure to allow the staff to prepare the cottage for the next visitors.
- We have all read and understood the conditions above and confirm that we are bound thereby.
